US visitor visa for a Thai partner or relative: what sponsors should know
Many US visa applications from Thailand are prepared with help from an American partner, relative or employer. The decision rests on the Thai applicant's own circumstances, so the most useful thing a sponsor can do is understand what the consular officer is actually weighing.

Does an invitation letter from a US citizen help a Thai applicant?
It can explain the purpose of the trip and who is hosting, but it does not carry legal weight. Officers focus on whether the applicant intends to return to Thailand. A short, factual letter is better than a long appeal.
What does a 214(b) refusal mean?
The officer was not persuaded that the applicant qualifies for the visa category, usually because ties to Thailand were not clear enough at the interview. There is no appeal; the applicant can reapply when their situation or the way they present it has genuinely changed.
Which ties to Thailand matter most?
Stable work or business, family responsibilities, property, study and a travel history showing on-time returns. Officers look at the whole picture, not a single document.
Can the sponsor attend the interview?
Generally no. The applicant answers alone, in their own words. Rehearsed answers written by a sponsor tend to hurt rather than help.
A mistake was made on the submitted DS-160. What now?
A submitted DS-160 cannot be edited. The usual fix is to complete a new form and update the appointment record with the new confirmation number before the interview.
Does dating or marrying a US citizen make a visitor visa harder?
It can raise questions about immigrant intent. That is not an automatic refusal, but the applicant should be candid about the relationship and show real reasons to return. For a planned move, an immigrant or fiancé(e) visa is the correct route.
