Translating Thai documents for China

Illustration of preparing documents and translations for use in China

Thai documents used in China may need Chinese translations and authentication in the order specified by the receiving office. China's participation in the Apostille Convention does not by itself make every Thai document eligible for an Apostille. Confirm the route for documents issued in Thailand before arranging translation or legalisation.

Usual language: Chinese · Last reviewed 2026-10-07 · Rules change; always confirm with the receiving authority.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need Chinese embassy legalisation?

Check the current procedure for documents issued in Thailand; do not decide from China's Convention membership alone. The receiving office, document type and applicable authentication arrangements determine whether consular legalisation or another route is required.

Official guidance to check

Status checked on 9 October 2026: Thailand deposited its instrument of accession on 30 June 2026, but HCCH lists entry into force for Thailand as 28 February 2027. Do not yet assume that Thai-issued documents can use an Apostille instead of consular legalisation. Recheck the status and the receiving authority's requirements before proceeding.
