Opening a Bank Account in Thailand as a Foreigner: What Banks Usually Ask

Thai banks decide account opening under their own anti-money-laundering policies, so requirements differ between banks and even branches. Most ask for a passport with a non-tourist visa or long stay, plus evidence of why you need a Thai account — a work permit, a certificate of residence, a letter from your employer or embassy, or proof of a retirement or long-stay visa. Tourists may be refused even with complete paperwork.
We do not publish company service prices. Ask our team for a case-specific quotation; official fees remain those announced by the authority on the filing date.
Preparing so the branch can say yes
Branch staff need a clear reason and a Thai address. We help you assemble the documents the bank you choose usually asks for, and explain the purpose of the account in a way that matches your visa. We do not open accounts on your behalf and cannot influence the bank's decision.
- Passport and visa with valid stay
- Work permit or employer letter, or retirement/long-stay visa evidence
- Certificate of residence or lease
- Thai phone number registered in your name
How we work, step by step
- Choose the bank. We tell you what different banks commonly require for your visa type.
- Gather documents. We help obtain the residence certificate or letters that support the application.
- Visit the branch. You attend in person; staff verify identity and complete the forms.
- Set up access. You activate the app or card at the branch and keep the account book safe.
- Keep details current. Update the bank when your visa or passport changes to avoid frozen access.
Questions we are asked most
Can I open an account on visa exemption?
Some branches may, many will not. A long-stay visa and residence proof make it far more likely.
Is the account needed for a retirement visa?
Retirement extensions often rely on Thai bank deposits or income evidence. Check current Immigration requirements before planning.
Do you publish prices or guarantee the outcome?
No. We quote after looking at your documents and situation, and every decision is made by the Thai authority concerned. We will tell you plainly when we think a plan is weak.
