BOI Work Permit in Thailand: How Promoted Companies Bring in Foreign Staff

อ่านภาษาไทย (Thai version)

BOI work permit support

Companies with Board of Investment promotion can request position approval for foreign experts and then process the employee's visa and work permit through the BOI's online system and its one-stop service. The company must hold a valid promotion and an approved position before the employee's paperwork moves; the employee supplies a passport, degree and employment evidence, which may need translation or certification.

We do not publish company service prices. Ask our team for a case-specific quotation; official fees remain those announced by the authority on the filing date.

Company side before employee side

Most delays we see start with the company's file, not the employee's: the promotion certificate has a condition the position does not match, the job description is too generic, or the online account is held by someone who has left. We review the company's approvals and the position description first, then prepare the employee's documents to match.

  • BOI promotion certificate and position approval
  • Employment contract or appointment letter
  • Employee's passport, degree certificate and experience letters
  • Translations or certifications where the BOI asks for them

Family members and changes of employer

Dependants can usually be processed alongside the employee. When an employee changes position, company or address, the work permit and visa records must be updated; leaving it until renewal often causes problems.

How we work, step by step

  1. Review company approvals. We check the promotion, position approval and online system access.
  2. Prepare the employee file. We list and check the employee's documents and arrange translations where required.
  3. Submit online. The company or its authorised representative submits the application through the BOI system.
  4. Visa and permit issue. The employee attends where required to receive the visa endorsement and work permit.
  5. Track renewals and changes. We note expiry dates and remind the company before renewal or when details change.

Questions we are asked most

Can a non-BOI company use this process?

No. Companies without BOI promotion use the standard Department of Employment and Immigration process, which has different requirements.

Can the employee start work before the permit is issued?

Do not assume so. Working before the permit is in place can breach Thai law; check with the BOI and your advisers for your situation.

Do you publish prices or guarantee the outcome?

No. We quote after looking at your documents and situation, and every decision is made by the Thai authority concerned. We will tell you plainly when we think a plan is weak.
