Canada visitor visa for Thai citizens

Thai passport holders travelling to Canada for tourism or a family visit generally need a visitor visa, also called a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), before departure. Most applications start online with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Applicants then provide fingerprints and a photograph after receiving a Biometric Instruction Letter. If the application is approved, IRCC requests the passport so the visa can be placed inside it. Processing times vary, and a visa does not guarantee admission: the border officer makes the final decision when you arrive in Canada.

We do not publish company service prices. Ask our team for a case-specific quotation; official fees remain those announced by the authority on the filing date.

What a visitor visa is — and what it does not permit

A visitor visa is placed in the passport to show that the traveller met Canada's initial requirements as a temporary resident. It covers tourism, family visits and permitted short business activity, but it is not a work permit or a long-term study permit.

Applicants must satisfy the officer that they will leave Canada at the end of their authorised stay, have enough money for the trip, are admissible and have answered every question truthfully. Entry count and validity come from the visa actually issued; the authorised stay is determined at the border.

  • Tourism or family visit: visitor visa (TRV)
  • Work or long-term study: the correct separate permit is required
  • A visa may be issued for single or multiple entry
  • Holding a visa does not guarantee entry to Canada

Evidence that makes the application coherent

IRCC does not decide an application from one bank-balance figure. The purpose, length, cost, income and ties to Thailand should tell one consistent story: what you will do, who will pay and why you will return on time.

Documents not in English or French must be translated according to IRCC's rules. Do not upload only the translation without the source document, and explain any recent large deposit instead of leaving the officer to guess where it came from.

  • Passport and relevant previous travel history
  • Itinerary, accommodation and an invitation letter for a personal visit
  • Bank activity over time and evidence of the source of income
  • Employment, business, family or other commitments in Thailand
  • English or French translations prepared to IRCC requirements

Common refusal concerns — and what to do next

Common concerns include whether the applicant will leave Canada at the end of the stay, an unclear purpose, finances that do not fit the trip, weak evidence of work or family ties in Thailand, and contradictions between the forms and documents.

You may apply again after a refusal, but first read the refusal letter and address the concern with relevant new evidence. Resubmitting the same file without a meaningful change rarely helps. Every previous refusal must be disclosed; concealment or false information can have consequences more serious than an ordinary refusal.

How we work, step by step

  1. Confirm the required travel document. Use Canada's official tool to confirm that your Thai passport and purpose require a visitor visa.
  2. Create an account and apply online. Keep every answer consistent with your passport, travel history, work and funding arrangements.
  3. Upload evidence and submit. Follow the personalised checklist and check that every scan is readable and properly translated.
  4. Give biometrics. After the Biometric Instruction Letter arrives, book the application centre and attend within the deadline in the letter.
  5. Monitor the account. Respond within the stated deadline if IRCC requests another document, examination or interview.
  6. Submit the passport when requested. Follow the Passport Request instructions, then check the name, passport number and visa dates when it is returned.

Questions we are asked most

Do Thai citizens need a visa for Canada?

Thai passport holders generally need a visitor visa (TRV) before travel. Always confirm the current requirement with Canada's official tool.

Does everyone have an interview?

No. IRCC may request an interview, medical examination or additional evidence depending on the individual case, so monitor the online account.

When do I give biometrics?

After submitting and receiving the Biometric Instruction Letter, book fingerprints and a photograph within the deadline stated in that letter.

How much money must I show?

There is no single amount for every applicant. Funds should cover the trip, have a clear source and fit your genuine income and circumstances.

How long does processing take?

It changes by application location, season and case complexity. Check IRCC's processing-time tool and avoid non-changeable bookings before a decision.

Does a Passport Request mean final approval?

It instructs you to submit the passport as directed. Wait for its return and inspect the actual visa before finalising travel.

Can I apply again after a refusal?

Yes, but address the refusal reasons with relevant evidence and disclose the previous refusal truthfully in the new application.
