UK Visitor Visa for Thai Citizens 2026: 6 Online Application Steps, Documents, Common Refusals

Thai nationals need a Standard Visitor visa before travelling to the UK. Applications are made online only through GOV.UK, followed by a biometrics appointment at the visa application centre in Bangkok. The visa allows stays of up to 6 months per visit for tourism, family visits or short business — never work. Standard processing is generally around 3 weeks, so apply at least 1–2 months ahead. A visa does not guarantee entry.
We do not publish company service prices. Ask our team for a case-specific quotation; official fees remain those announced by the authority on the filing date.
What the Standard Visitor visa is
The Standard Visitor visa is the UK's short-stay visa for tourism, visiting family and friends, business meetings and certain short activities. It allows up to 6 months per visit, and comes in single-entry form or as long-term multiple-entry visas valid 2, 5 or 10 years for frequent travellers.
A long-validity visa does not mean long continuous stays: every entry is still capped at 6 months, and border officers reassess each arrival. Entering often and staying long can raise questions about whether you are effectively living in the UK on a visitor visa.
- Tourism, family visits, short business: Standard Visitor
- Work, long-term study or marriage registration: a specific visa category
- No paid work in the UK on this visa
Documents worth attaching — even when GOV.UK calls them optional
The UK online system does not force you to upload every document type, but officers judge the overall credibility of the application. The evidence that helps most is bank statements covering several months, an employment letter stating position, salary and approved leave, a travel itinerary, and evidence of ties to Thailand.
A common mistake among Thai applicants is attaching a large lump sum transferred into the account days before applying. Officers always read this negatively — it looks like borrowed show money. Good funds are savings built from real income that fit the trip's budget.
- Financial evidence over several months, not one recent lump sum
- Employment or business evidence naming approved leave dates
- An itinerary and accommodation realistic for your income
- Evidence of ties to Thailand: steady work, family, property
Common refusal reasons
The most frequent refusal ground is the officer not being satisfied you will leave the UK on time, judged from job stability, income and travel history. Next come income that does not match the trip's cost, and form answers that contradict the attached documents.
If you have been refused, the UK refusal letter states its reasons fairly clearly. A new application should answer those reasons with genuine evidence — not resubmit the same file.

Questions we are asked most
Do Thai citizens need a visa for the UK?
Yes. Thai passports require a Standard Visitor visa before travel, applied for online via GOV.UK.
How long can I stay?
Up to 6 months per visit, even on a multi-year visa.
How long does processing take?
Standard service is generally around 3 weeks after biometrics; apply 1–2 months ahead.
How much money must I show?
There is no fixed figure, but funds must fit the trip, come from real income, and not be a lump sum deposited just before applying.
Can I re-apply after a refusal?
Yes. The refusal letter states its reasons; the new application should answer them with genuine evidence.
